RenovationOS
Every room · every dollar · every decision

Budget

What you spent vs what you budgeted — by room and category. This is your money ledger.

Rows in amber-red are over their line budget. Use Selections for the decision log (what you chose) and Changes for scope changes that move the budget.

Rooms

Each room's budget, spend and progress. Completion drives the dashboard rings.

Contractors

Your trades, quotes and payments. Compare quotes side by side before you hire.

Selections

The decision log — every finish and fixture you're choosing, from "researching" to "installed."

Change orders

Mid-project changes are where budgets quietly go. Log every one — approved changes eat your contingency buffer.

Timeline

Phases and milestones from demo day to move-back-in. Drives the countdown on your dashboard.

Punch list

The final snags, room by room. The last 2% that makes it feel finished.

Help & guide

Everything you need, in plain language. Every room, every dollar, every decision.

What RenovationOS is (and isn't)

A calm, interactive dashboard for running a home renovation — budget, rooms, contractors, quotes, selections, change orders, timeline and punch list, all in one file on your own computer. It works in your browser on Mac or Windows, online or offline, and your data never leaves your device. One-time purchase — no subscription, no login, nothing to install.

It isn't a 3D room-design or floor-plan tool, and it isn't accounting software. It's the calm command center for the money-and-logistics side of a renovation.

Setup — 60 seconds

1. Download your files from Etsy (Purchases → RenovationOS → Download). 2. Double-click RenovationOS.html — it opens in your browser. 3. Done. Everything you enter saves automatically to that browser on that device.

New here? Click "Explore with sample data" to load a full example project, then "Start fresh with my own" when you're ready.

The eight sections

Dashboard — money spent vs budget, over/under status, the burn bar, a contingency-buffer gauge, room-completion rings, and what's coming up.

Budget — your money ledger: line items grouped by room, with a category roll-up, budget vs actual, with over-budget rows flagged and totals that recompute.

Rooms — one card per room (budget, spend, % complete, status). Completion drives the dashboard rings.

Contractors — trades with status, contact, quotes and payments. Enter two or more quotes for a trade to see a side-by-side comparison — the lowest is labelled, each higher quote shows how much more it costs, and your picked quote is the one highlighted.

Selections — your decision log: every finish and fixture from "researching" to "installed". This is what you chose; money you actually spend goes in Budget.

Changes — the change-order log. Log every mid-project change with its cost impact; approved changes draw down your contingency buffer, and the dashboard shows how much is left.

Timeline — phases and milestones from demo day to move-back-in, with a phase bar. The countdown to your target finish is on the Dashboard.

Punch list — the final snags, room by room, with priority and a done checkbox.

Set up your project & keep it safe

Open Settings ⚙ (top right) to set your project name, total budget, contingency % (a reserve for surprises — the app starts you at 10%; your project's right number depends on the age of the house and how much is hidden behind walls), target finish and currency. Because your data lives in this browser on this device, keep a backup: Settings → Export backup saves a small file; Settings → Import restores it or moves it to a new computer. Clearing your browser's site data erases the app's data, so an exported backup is your safety net.

Yes — open the file in your phone's browser (designed desktop-first, adapts with a bottom nav + "More"). More than one project? v1 tracks one at a time — export a backup to archive one before starting another. Updates? Yes — free updates, re-download from your Etsy purchases any time. File won't open? Double-click RenovationOS.html in a normal (non-incognito) browser window. Data gone? Reopen in the same browser, or Import your backup.
